Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
According to the guideline the temperature for the final flash point is rounded down to 0.5 °C.
The flash point is determined with the method according to Abel (DIN EN ISO 13736). The test
item is placed in a stirred test vessel (30 r/min) which is progressively heated (3 K/min for the
preliminary test and 1 K/min for the main test) until the vapour reaches a sufficiently high
concentration in air to produce a flammable mixture which could be ignited. A defined gas flame
is used as ignition source. The flame is periodically dipped into the gas atmosphere of the test
vessel (every 2 K for the preliminary test and every 0.5 K for the main test).
Recommended range: between approx. -30 and 70 °C.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. certificate)
Type of method:
closed cup
