Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

LC50 (14d) > 20,000 mg/kg (nominal) for Eisenia fetida (OECD 207, read across)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no studies investigating the toxicity of Fatty acids, C8 -10, octyl esters (CAS 91031-98-0) to soil macroorganisms are available, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally similar substance isopropyl myristate (CAS 110-27-0) was conducted. Further justification of the read-across approach is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and the analogue justification document in section 13.

The key study with isopropyl myristate (CAS 110-27-0) was performed as a limit test according to OECD guideline 207 and GLP (Steber, 1999). The test organism Eisenia fetida was exposed to isopropyl myristate in artificial soil for 14 days, at the nominal test concentration of 20,000 mg/kg. No mortality occurred during the test period. Thus, the 14d-LC50 is determined to be > 20,000 mg/kg. Based on the structural and profile similarities of target and source substance, the assessment of toxicity to soil macroorganisms can also be considered valid for Fatty acids, C8 -10, octyl esters (CAS 91031-98-0).
