Description of key information

The 7-d EC50 and EC10 values are >0.735 µg/L in duckweed (L. gibba).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae was determined in a study according to OECD guideline No 221 and in compliance with GLP criteria (BASF, 2015).

In this study 3 replicates of 3 uniform, healthy-looking duckweed (L. gibba), with 4 fronds each, were introduced in test vessels containing test substance at 25.0, 50.0 and 100 % of a saturated solution of 0.800μg/L and a blank control. Plants were exposed for 7 days under flow-through conditions. Test concentrations were analytically verified and arithmetic mean concentrations found to be <LoQ (control) and 0.408, 0.362 and 0.735 µg/L. Observations of frond size, appearance, indication of necrosis, chlorosis or gibbosity, colony break-up or loss of buoyancy, of root length and appearance, as well as of change in colour and destruction of roots, were made on every determination day and at the end of the exposure. At the end of the test period, dry weight was determined. No significant effects of any of the observed effect parameters was noted throughout the test. Based on these findings the 7-day EC50 values for growth rate and yield were determined at >0.735 µg/L (measured) i.e. higher than the solubility limit of the test substance in water.
