Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
Version / remarks:
based on ISO 304 Ring method
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
The surface tension result was not corrected using the Harkins-Jordon correction table. Please see remarks.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
With the exception of the following deviation, the experimental procedure was carried out according to EU Method A.5 (Surface tension) with the exception of one deviation:
The surface tension was not corrected using the Harkins-Jordon table as the correction is not applicable to the apparatus used. Once calibrated the balance ring assembly used in this test gave a direct reading for surface tension that is within accuracy (±0.5 mN/m); this is as a result of reducing the ring dimensions.

The deviation is considered as to not have affected the integrity of the study.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
other: HPLC

Test material

Reference
Name:
Unnamed
Type:
Constituent
Details on test material:
Sponsors identification: ARAKAWA KE-604
Description: pale yellow blocks
Batch No.: R61132
Purity: no data

Results and discussion

Surface tension
Surface tension:
ca. 71.5 mN/m
Temp.:
20.5 °C
Conc.:
0 g/L

Any other information on results incl. tables

Mean reading = 71.9 mN/m

Surface tension = reading x calibrating factor = 71.9 x 0.995 = 71.5 mNm

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

The surface tension of a 4.51 x 10 -4 g/l solution of Arakawa KE-604 has been determined to be 71.5 mN/m at 20.5 ± 0.5 °C. Arakawa is not considered to be a surface active material.
