No acute or chronic effects to algae are expected up to the limit of water solubility (< 0.12 mg/L)

The toxicity of Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, dimers (CAS No. 61788-89-4) to aquatic green algae, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (formerly Selenastrum capricornutum), was tested with WAFs, under static conditions (Kelly, 2002). The WAFs were prepared through direct addition of test substance to medium and stirred for 48h, after which 800 mL of the WAF was siphoned off for use as a test medium. The EL50 (72 h) and NOELR (72 h) were both determined as > 1000 mg/L (nominal). The same result was obtained in a study used for read-across with the category member Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, trimers (CAS No. 68937-90-6), conducted in accordance to ISO 10253 with the marine alga Skeletonema costatum. No effect up to the limit of the water solubility of the tested substance (< 0.37 mg/L) was observed and the EL50 (72 h) and NOELR (72h) are reported as > 1000 mg/L (nominal) (Källqvist, 2004).

Thus, based on the above mentioned results, it can be concluded that Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, dimers (CAS No. 61788-89-4) or any other substance within the category does not show any chronic toxicity to algae up to the limit of water solubility.
