General Information

Name:
reaction mass of calcium carbonate and calcium dihydroxide and silicon dioxide
Implementation:
EU
Remarks:
The substance is a reaction mass of calcium carbonate and calcium dihydroxide and silicon dioxide. The reaction mass can contain up to 87% calcium dihydroxide and therefore the reaction mass has been classified similar to calcium dihydroxide. An evaluation of the available hazard data for calcium carbonate indicated that these constituents do not affect the classification of the substance. Also the impurities do not seem to affect the classification of the substance. Significant levels of silicon dioxide (typical concentration 10 %) can be present in the substance. Because the silicon dioxide can be present as crystaline silica, a precautionary classification for specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure (STOT Rep. Exp. 2) was added to the classification of the substance, taking into account a classification of respirable crystaline silica as STOT Rep. Exp. 1.
