- Executive summary:
In this guideline (OECD 102) study conducted to GLP standards, the test material (EC 438-340-0) was determined to have a melting point of 68°C at 1013 hPa.
Reference
The results of the individual measurements are summarized in the attached table. The test item handling (e.g. weighing) was performed under red light.
The first endothermic heat effect, the melting, was observed at 72.8 °C. After the experiment, the sample had lost about 61 % of its mass and the color of the sample was black, carbonized and melted.
In order to determine the melting more precisely, further DSC-runs were recorded between 30 °C and 130 °C with a heating rate of 5 K/min. In the first main test run, the melting of test item was determined at 68.2 °C. The melting of the test item during the second
main test run was determined to be at 67.7 °C. During these runs, the samples lost 7.8 % and 1.6 % of their mass, respectively. After the measurement both samples were melted, clear and yellowish.
