additional ecotoxicological information
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Acceptable, well-documented publication/study report which meets basic scientific principles. Analytical monitoring of test substance concentration was not performed. The test solutions were renewed daily and therefore it can be assumed that the moderate volatility of acetone is of little importance.

Results and discussion

Any other information on results incl. tables

There was no statistically significant effect of acetone at a concentration of 1 mL/L on mortality, body weight, body length, developmental stage, or equilibrium posture.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
In an 28d bioassay with bullfrog tadpoles (Rana catesbeiana) under semi-static conditions no statistically significant effect of acetone at a concentration of 1 mL/L (790 mg/L nominal) on mortality, body weight, body length, developmental stage, or equilibrium posture was recorded.
Executive summary:

In an 28d bioassay with bullfrog tadpoles (Rana catesbeiana) under semi-static (renewal: daily) conditions no statistically significant effect of acetone at a concentration of 1 mL/L (790 mg/L nominal) on mortality, body weight, body length, developmental stage, or equilibrium posture was recorded. Based on the test design (renewal of test solution daily) it can be assumed that the moderate volatility of the test substance acetone was of little importance.

Thus the study is regarded as reliable with restrictions.
