Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a chronic drinking water study with rats (Lijinski and Kovatch, 1986; see also repeated dose toxicity) the evidence for carcinogenic activity of the test substance is marginal and the effect, if any, is weak. The LOAEL was established to be 3300 ppm for male and female rats.

The same authors reported a LOAEL of 13000 ppm and a NOAEL of 6500 ppm for mice given the test substance in drinking water (see repeated dose toxicity). The authors stated, that an evidence for carcinogenic activity of cyclohexanone is marginal and the effect, if any, is weak.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Since effects (tumors found in the adrenal cortex and follicular thyroid gland) were only found in high-dosed animals, classification is not warranted.
