Description of key information

The substance titanium oxychloride is reported by two company MSDS as a colourless to yellow liquid with biting odour.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance titanium oxychloride as it is used occurs as intermediate product during the hydrolysis of parent compound titanium tetrachloride. Target substance titanium oxychloride only can get stabilized in the aqueous medium if hydrochloric acid is being added, thus shifting the chemical reaction equilibrium towards the side of titanium oxychloride. Therefore the company MDSD on titanium oxychloride in fact describe the physical appearance of this aqueous medium as a whole.

The substance titanium oxychloride is reported by two company MSDS as a colourless to yellow liquid with biting odour. The biting odour primarily is coming from the hydrochloric acid needed to stabilise the target substance.
