Description of key information

EbC50 (72h) > 1000 mg/L and NOEbC (72h) ≥ 1000 mg/L for Desmodesmus subspicatus (OECD 201, limit test)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of glycine to aquatic algae was investigated in the key study (Hagiwara, 1998) using Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata as test organism. This non-GLP study was carried out according to OECD guideline 201. No effects occurred up to the maximum concentration of 1000 mg/L (nominal) based on biomass. Thus, the NOEC is > 1000 mg/L (nominal).
