The particle size distribution was determined using a Mastersizer laser light scattering analyzer (model MAM 5005, Malvern Instruments Ltd., Worcestershire, UK). A small quantity of powder was dispersed in 99.5% ethanol and the particle distribution monitored during five successive readings. The particle size was expressed as the mean volumetric size D4,3 (De Brouckere mean diameter), which is the mean diameter of a sphere with the same volume, and is generally used to characterize a particle.
