Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Material is a refractory solid and has a melting point in excess of 350 degrees C.Normally used up to temperatures of greater than 1800 degress C

Simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) combines differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermos-gravimetric analysis (TGA). The use of this technique can give valuable information of the effects on materials upon heating. Endothermic and exothermic processes are analysed by the DSC, including thermal degradation, glass transition, melting and crystallisation. TGA will record any mass losses within the sample, for example the degradation of carbonate materials to release CO2 gas.

This process was used to analyse polycrystalline wool. Polyethylene Oxide (PEA) was used as a control as this polymer generally melts between 60-80°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
