First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Seek medical attention in case of known
or possible over exposure to this material, or with symptoms
including chest pain, difficulty breathing, loss of
consciousness or other adverse effects which may be delayed.
If breathing has stopped start basic life support and seek
immediate medical assistance.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Flush eyes continuously with water for at least 15 minutes
and obtain medical assistance.


NOTE TO PHYSICIAN:

Consider further flushing of eyes with large amounts of
water or saline and referring all such cases to an
ophthalmologist.
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and remaining material by
flushing with water. Obtain medical assistance if immediate
or delayed symptoms of skin reaction develop.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: In the event of swallowing this material, seek immediate
medical assistance.


NOTE TO PHYSICIAN:

This material is not a corrosive agent.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide, foam or dry chemical.


Water jets may intensify the fire or be ineffective.


Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a
fire evolving noxious fumes (eg. carbon and nitrogen
oxides).

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing
apparatus must be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from the immediate vicinity. Wear
protective clothing and equipment consistent with the degree
of hazard.


If spills should occur, the liquid should be contained and
absorbed using a suitable inert material, and placed in a
suitable properly labelled container for recovery or
disposal. Wash down spillage area with copious amounts of
water without allowing this material to enter surface
drainage systems. This must only be undertaken if waste
water can be directed to an on-site waste water treatment
system.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used under
conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with
any local regulations to avoid exposure by inhalation,
ingestion and skin and eye contact.


When exposure cannot be prevented or aequately controlled
other than by the use of personal protective equipment, eye
protection (eg. safety glasses with sideshields) should be
worn. These should be capable of giving chemical protection
as classified in BS2092 or prEN166. Skin contact should be
prevented by the use of impervious gloves to a standard
prEN374, and the use of protective clothing with long
sleeves suitable for protection against the chemical as
classified by standard EN368.


Furthermore, when respiratory protective equipment has to be
used, it must be capable of adequately controlling exposure,
be suitable for the purpose and be of a type conforming to
the appropriate European Standards.

Storage: Avoid prolonged storage at elevated temperatures, greater
than 20°C.


Keep containers tightly closed away from moisture.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The substance will be packaged in 200 litre polythene-lined
metal drums.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The substance is place on the market as a 50% solution in a
highly flammable solvent, ethyl acetate.

Chemical reaction with water: None which is hazardous.

Dust explosion: Not applicable to a liquid.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will be used exclusively by industry and
confined to systems that are essentially open and batchwise
industrial operations. Handling of the substance will be by
trained operators and it will be kept to a minimum.


Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from
minor spillages or accidental discharge to the environment
is not economically or technically feasible, and such waste
material will be disposed of by incineration or landfill in
accordance with local regulations. In principle, it may be
possible to recover larger spillages of uncontaminated
material for subsequent use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The notification tests have not identified any properties of
the substance that are hazardous to human health so no
chemical treatment is necessary.


No treatment is practicable to neutralise the hazardous
environmental properties.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers or spillages of solutions mixed with
inert material (eg. sand or soil) may be disposed of by
landfill at an authorised tip in accordance with local
regulations (A650).


Collect for recovery or recycling if possible.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning
under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment
processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases
should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (eg. carbon and
nitrogen oxides) could be formed (A661).

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The neat substance should not normally be discharged to the
sewage system or aqueous environment. The substance is not
likely to have adverse effects on sewage treatment systems
following accidental discharge however, because it has been
shown not to be unduly toxic to sewage micro-organisms.

to the public.
