Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Reliable short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates data are available with the registration substance 3-chloropropyl(dimethoxy)methylsilane (CAS 18171-19-2, EC 242-050-0).

The relevant short-term value is:

Daphnia:

Key EC50 (48 h): >100 mg/l nominal concentration. This EC50 is equivalent to >85 mg/l when expressed in terms of concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product 3-chloropropyl(methyl)silanediol (LPT 2003).

No other reliable experimental data are available for the registration substance, 3-chloropropyl(dimethoxy)methylsilane (CAS 18171-19-2). However, data are available with the structurally related substances, dichloro(3-chloropropyl)methylsilane (CAS 7787-93-1, EC 232-136-3) and 3-chloropropyl(diethoxy)methylsilane (CAS 13501-76-3, EC 236-828-6). All substances hydrolyse to the same silanol containing hydrolysis products (see Section 13 of IUCLID for the RAAF report for ecotoxicity).

The relevant short-term values are:

Fish:

WoE LC50 (96 h): >107 mg/l nominal concentration, Cyprinus carpio, read-across from dichloro(3-chloropropyl)methylsilane (CAS 7787-93-1). This LC50 is equivalent to >86 mg/l when expressed in terms of concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product 3-chloropropyl(methyl)silanediol (Hüls 1997).

WoE LC50 (96 h): 574 mg/l, Danio rerio, read-across from 3-chloropropyl(diethoxy)methylsilane (CAS 13501-76-3). This LC50 is equivalent to 421 mg/l when expressed in terms of concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product 3-chloropropyl(methyl)silanediol (Hüls, 1995).

Algae:

Key ErC50 (72 h): 437 mg/l, ErC10 137 mg/l and NOEC 57 mg/l nominal concentration, Desmodesmus subspicatus, read-across from 3-chloropropyl(diethoxy)methylsilane (CAS 13501-76-3). The results are equivalent to EC50 321 mg/l and EC10 101 mg/l when expressed in terms of concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product 3-chloropropyl(methyl)silanediol (Hüls 1994).

The rapid or moderate hydrolysis rates of the registration and read-across substances, and test media preparation methods, mean it is likely that the test organisms in each test were exposed primarily to the hydrolysis products of the tested substances.

An activated sludge respiration inhibition study (EC Guideline: 88/302/EC (30.5.1988)) is available for dichloro(3-chloropropyl)methylsilane (CAS 7787-93-1). These data are read-across to the submission substance. A 3-hour EC50 value of 400 mg/l was determined.
