Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No data are available for the toxicity assessment of the test substance to terrestrial organisms. However, the substance is not applied directly to soil and is not expected to be transferred indirectly to soil in significant quantity.

Furthermore, tert-butanol, the organic hydrolysis product of potassium tert-butanolate, has a low potential for adsorption to soil particles (log Koc of 0.32) and it has no bioaccumulative properties (log Kow clearly below 3). Additionally, the lack of any harmful effects in aquatic tests on all three trophic levels at concentrations below or equal 100 mg/L indicate a low hazardous potential of the test substance towards soil organisms. Based on these data, binding to sewage sludge is unlikely and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected. Therefore, the risk to soil organisms is considered negligible and no tests on terrestrial organisms are provided.

Terrestrial toxicity and toxicity to soil organisms can be waived on the basis of exposure (exposure based waiving): Potassium hydroxide is expected to remain in the water phase due to high water solubility and low octanol-water partitioning.
