Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A GLP study was conducted in accordance with the OECD Guideline for the Testing of Chemicals 123, slow stirring method . The study results that the slow stirring method is not suitable for the determination of the octanol/water coefficient for compounds like triphenylphosphine ( triphenylphosphine (TPP) decomposes in water to form triphenylphosphine oxide) which are unstable in one of the layers for the time needed to reach Partition equilibrium (BASF AG, 2003). Handbook data (Hansch et al., 1995, cited in Physprop database; exploring QSAR data equivalent to OECD 123) reveal a log Kow of 5.69. This value has been used in terms of chemical safety assessment. In addition, a supporting model calculation was done with KOWWIN v1.68 (EpiSuite v4.11; BASF SE, 2018) estimating the partition coefficient of TPP to be 5.021 at 25 °C.

Handbook data (Hansch et al., 1995, cited in Physprop database; exploring QSAR data equivalent to OECD 123) reveal a log Kow of 2.83 for triphenylphosphine oxide.
