Additional information

Two handbooks provide information that alums in general, and ammonium aluminium sulfate in particular, are used as fireproofing agents. Therefore it seems very unlikely that the substance could exhibit flammable properties.

Experience in handling and use of the substance (in particular for water and sewage treatment) does not suggest any flammability hazard if contact with water or air.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is NOT anticipated to meet the criteria of Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) nor of Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP) for classification in flammable (solids), substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases or pyrophoric solids hazard categories.
