Description of key information

Zeta-potential:

The zeta-potential of MWCNT decreased with increasing pH value and the isoelectric point was found to be around pH 5 - 6 (Egger, 2010).

Impact sensitivity:

According to VDI 2263, Part 1 (Impact sensitivity) MWCNT is not impact sensitive (Heinz, 2006a).

Dust explosibility:

According to VDI 2263, Part 1 (Dust explosibility) MWCNT are dust explosible under the conditions of the modified Hartmann tube. According to ISO 6184/1 / VDI 2263/ ASTM E1226, MWCNT are classifed as St1 (low explosion violence) . The lower explosion limit is 180 mg/m3 (Heinz, 2006a; Adinex 2007, Adinex 2008b, Adinex 2010).

Dustiness:

In relation to the total air flow MWCNT showed dustiness mass fractions WR of 39.75 mg/kg drop mass and dustiness mass fractions W1 of 3626 mg/kg drop mass. This results in a classification of low for respirable dust and moderate for inhalable dust according to EN15051-B. In relation to the pari flow (according to DIN 33897-2) MWCNT showed dustiness mass fractions SA of 1.50 mg/kg drop mass and dustiness mass fraction SE of 136.83 mg/kg drop mass (IGF, 2008).

Specific surface area:

In a study, the specific surface area of MWCNT was determined using the BET method. The measurement carried out show a specific surface area of 253 m²/g (Hammer, 2006b). The specific surface area, measured by the analysis of the nitrogen adsorption isotherm according to the BET method, was determined to be in the range of 250 to 300 m²/g (Lecloux, 2011d)

Self-heating:

According to VDI 2263, Part 1, the exothermic reaction of MWCNT according to Grewer started at 291 °C. For a small amount of substance the test shows that the substance has no self-heating properties (Heinz, 2006a).
