Description of key information
One chronic key study was available on the substance following GLP and OECD 211 Guideline. Five concentrations were used and measured over the study. All effects were observed at concentrations greater than the solubility limit. The conclusion is that the substance is not toxic at the limit of solubility in a chronic invertebrate study.

The chronic toxicity of Tert-Dodecanethiol on Daphnia magna was assessed in open system under semi-static exposure conditions during a period of 21 days, according to OECD Guideline 211 and GLP.
Five nominal concentrations were used (prepared with a solvent): 0.20, 0.10, 0.05, 0.025 and 0.0125 mg/L, plus two controls (negative control and solvent control) . The result indicate that there were effects in the top concentrations, however, the measured concentrations (at T=0) were > limit of solubility. At the lower concentrations the likelihood was that TDM was present at or < limit of solubility and there were no effects. Presence of solvent may also have affected results. Correct conclusion is that the NOEC was greater than the limit of solubility.
A study by Dow was not considered valid but is supporting evidence of non-toxicity, even in a long term study, due to lack of effects at exposure concentrations at the limit of solubility.
