Description of key information

No carcinogenicity data are currently available for calcium zirconium oxide. Nevertheless, from the data available on zirconium dioxide (which is present at >= 90% in the crystal lattice of calcium zirconium oxide), it can be concluded that testing is not required as zirconium dioxide is not mutagenic and no evidence of hyperplasia or pre-neoplastic lesions is observed from the repeated dose studies. Additionally, the presence of calcium in the crystal lattice is not expected to alter the non-hazardous toxicological profile of zirconium dioxide as calcium is omnipresent throughout the human body and is essential to living organisms. As is the case for zirconium dioxide, there is no evidence for calcium oxide to cause systemic adverse effects.
