Endpoint:

Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
July 4, 2012
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test: The ammonium salts of C16-18 (even numbered) fatty acids are produced in an aqueous dispersion with approx. 67% of water, 4% of the additive and 29% of ammonium salts. It is technically not feasible to isolate the substance due to the possible decomposition of component(s) during the warming process to remove the water. Moreover, still additives of preparation would be present at the dry sample. Therefore, the density measurement of Fatty acids, 16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts was determined by calculation of density differences between the preparation in water dispersion and the additve by a pycnomether method (UNE 55-702-82).

The density of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts was determined to be 0.9479 ± 0.0009 g/ml.

The obtained results were as follows:

Taking into consideration that the aqueous dispersion of the ammonium salts contains 4% of additives, the density of the 4% of the additive was subtracted by the following formula:

Density = A - 4/100 * B where,

Density: Density of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts

A: Density of aqueous dispersion of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts

B: Density of the additive

Conclusions:
The density of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts was determined to be 0.9479 g/ml.
Executive summary:

The determination of the density of Fatty acids, C16 -18 (even numbered), ammonium salts was performed by a pycnomemter method (UNE 55-702-82). The density at 25 ºC was determined to be 0.9479 g/ml.
