EC number: 295-405-4
CAS number: 92045-23-3
A complex combination of hydrocarbons produced by the distillation of the products of a steam cracking process. It consists predominantly of hydrocarbons having a carbon number of C4, predominantly 1-butene and 2-butene, containing also butane and isobutene and boiling in the range of approximately minus 12°C to 5°C (10.4°F to 41°F).
Water solubility data were not available for
any of the streams within this Category. However as the category
consists of mainly C4 hydrocarbons, data were read across from
hydrocarbon C4 substances (CAS numbers 75-98-5: 53.5 mg/L at 25°C,
115-11-7: 263 mg/L at 25°C, 106-98-9: 222 mg/L at 25°C,
25167-67-3: 222 mg/L at 25°C). All information came
from a peer reviewed handbook (CRC, 2008) or McAuliffe (1966) who used a
non-standard method that was fully reported and deemed suitable for the
assessment of water solubility of gases. The water solubility range of
this Category was determined to be 53.5 - 263 mg/L.
mean of the water solubility values for the category is 190.1 mg/L at
25°C and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical
