Description of key information

Log BCF of 0.50 (BCF = 3.2) is calculated based on the measured log Kow value of -0.6 with EpiSuite v4.0.

The alkyl-1,3-diaminopropanes are readily biodegradable and it is therefore unlikely that they will accumulate in the food chain.

The bioaccumulation potential is estimated using EpiSuite v4.0 and the measured log Kow value. The measured log Kow was determined with the slow stirring method which is considered the most suitable method available for these sort of substances. The calculated log Kow is not a suitable alternative for the experimentally determined log Kow because the log Kow calculation method does not take into account the fact that the diamines are protonated for more than 99% protonated under environmental conditions. Therefore the BCF calculation is based on the measured log Kow. The calculated BCF value of 3.2 indicates that alkyl-1,3-diaminopropanes have a low bioaccumulation potential. The low calculated BCF is considered to be realistic as the fraction of unprotonated amines will be very low in the environment. The predicted BCF value could even be lower, as the calculation of the BCF is not taking into account metabolism of the compound, e.g. by fish and other aquatic organisms.
