Additional information

The reported values for acute aquatic toxicity range from 2.36 mg/l (96hr EC50 for Algae - QSAR) to 7.72 mg/l (96hr LC50 for fish - measured).

These values do not indicate that 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene would meet the criteria for toxic in the PBT assessment. Also, these endpoint would not affect the classification of the 1, 2, 4-trimethylbenzene since the substance is biodegradable and the log Kow is < 4.0. However, under the harmonization of Annex 1 and GHS the substance has been classified as Aquatic Chronic 2 hazard to the environment and the hazard statement 'Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects'. This is because under Annex 1 the substance has been classified as N R51-53 because the log Kow criterion is > 3.0 for this classification. The log Kow of 1, 2, 4-trimethylbenzene is 3.63.
