Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Any other information on results incl. tables

During the preliminary test the FAT 40840/A TE/cellulose mixture only glowed for about 2 min. The barium nitrate/cellulose mixture during the same test burned for 59 sec with a greenish flame. The burning time of the reaction of the test item mixture was higher than the burning time of the reference mixture; therefore the first step of the main test was performed. For all prepared FAT 40840/A TE/cellulose mixtures only surface burning or no burning was observed and therefore no burning rates could be calculated. Therefore the test was stopped according to the guideline. In comparison: the fastest barium nitrate/cellulose mixture contained 50% barium nitrate.

Burning rate of the barium nitrate / cellulose mixtures

Barium nitrat [%]   Cellulose powder [%]   Burning time [s/200 mm]  Burning rate [mm/s]
70  30  453  0.44
 60 40   359  0.55
 50  50  345  0.58

FAT 40840/A TE has no oxidizing properties.
Executive summary:

For all prepared FAT 40840/A TE/cellulose mixtures only surface burning or no burning was observed and therefore no burning rates could be calculated. Therefore the test was stopped according to the guideline. In comparison: the fastest barium nitrate/cellulose mixture contained 50% barium nitrate.
