Key Study
Aim of this study was the determination of the inhibitory effect on the oxygen depletion of the bacterium Pseudomonas putida according to DIN 12 Part 27. The Oxygen depletion of a bacterial culture is the parameter to be measured. For this purpose, the 02 reduction is determined in the test preparation under the influence of test material in a gastight measuring chamber by means of an oxygen electrode. The oxygen values measured are directly recorded on a data recorder. The nominal concentrations tested were 10.000 mg/L, 5.000 mg/L, 2.500 mg/L, 1.250 mg/L, 625 mg/L, 313 mg/L, 156 mg/L, 78 mg/L, 39 mg/L and 1 inoculated parallel. The results indicate that the test material up to a limit concentration of 10000 mg/L after 30 -minute incubation caused no inhibition of the bacterial oxygen depletion.
Supporting Study
In a short-term respiratory inhibition test the effect of the test material on the effect concentrations were measured according to OECD Guideline 209 (Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test) and ISO 8192 (Test for Inhibition of Oxygen Consumption by Activated Sludge). Communal laboratory activated sludge was used. The effect of the test material was compared with the effect of the reference substance 3.5-Dichlorphenol. The concentration tested were 1000.4 mg/L, 250.8 mg/L, 50 mg/L. There was no effect on the activated sludge.
