Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The substance to be registered is Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C10-14-alkyl derivs. Read-across is based on the closest structural analogues for which high quality data were available, obtained through membership in the ATC TF-25 Consortium.

Read-across substances include the following: CAS # 70024 -71 -4, 61789 -86 -4, 71486 -79 -8, 115733 -09 -0, 231297 -75 -9, and 70024 -73 -6. See attached justifications for read-across.

Short-term toxicity to fish:

Read-across substances include the following: CAS # 70024-71-4, 61789-86-4, and 71486-79-8

The LC50 in freshwater fish is considered to be >1000 mg/l and >10000 mg/l with marine species. The read-across substances are, therefore, considered not toxic to freshwater or marine fish species.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

Read-across substances include the following: CAS # 115733-09-0 and 71486-79-8

The EC50 in freshwater Daphnia is considered to be >1000 mg/l. The read-across substances are, therefore, considered not toxic to Daphnia magna. The toxicity of the read-across substances has not been assessed using marine invertebrate species, but it is considered likely to be similar to freshwater species.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria:

Read-across substances include the following: CAS # 115733-09-0, 71486-79-8, and 61789-86-4

The EC50 in freshwater algae is considered to be >1000mg/l. Two of the studies available support this conclusion, while the one remaining study did not exceed 100 mg/l, although the data support the conclusion that the EC50 is above this dose level. As this dose level has been included in the other studies conducted, it is considered acceptable to consider this as supporting data but to conclude that the highest dose level attained from studies considered reliable is both appropriate and adequately supported by the data. The read-across substances are, therefore, considered not toxic to algae. The toxicity of the read-across substances has not been assessed using marine algal species, but it is considered likely to be similar to freshwater species.
