Description of key information

To determinate the hydrolysis of 12-ketochenodeoxycholic acid, experimental data on a similar substance (ursodeoxycholic acid) have been used in read-across. The test has been performed according to C.7 method in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and OECD guideline No. 111.

Additional information

A read-across approach has been chosen to evaluate hydrolysis of 12-ketochenodeoxycholic acid. The results of the preliminary test on the similar substance ursodeoxycholic acid showed that less than 50% of the test item has been hydrolysed in 2.4 hours at, and that less than 10% of the test item has been hydrolysed after five days for the three pH values, the full test was not performed. Therefore, according to guideline dispositions, the full test was not performed and it can be concluded that the abiotic degradation hydrolysis of ursodeoxycholic acid is lower than 10% after 5 days at pH values 4, 7 and 9.

If released into the environment,12-ketochenodeoxycholic acid is not expected to hydrolyze.
