Additional information

Although no tests are available that assess the aquatic toxicity of L-leucine to the relevant trophic levels, the aquatic toxicity of the substance can be sufficiently assessed based on the information available for the read-across substance L-valine. This read-across is deemed justified based on a comparison of the main factors driving environmental toxicity: pH, water solubility, log Kow and chemical reactivity (functional groups).

Based on this read-across, it can be concluded that acute toxicity to fish or aquatic invertebrates is not expected to occur upon exposure to up to 1000 mg/L of L-leucine.

Furthermore, QSAR information based on the EpiSuite (EcoSAR) model are added to the dossier to further substantiate the low toxicity of L-leucine to the aquatic compartment.
