Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Key study data are available for each relevant physicochemical endpoint for treated distillate aromatic extracts. All substances in the category are highly viscous fluids (CONCAWE, 2009) at ambient temperature (20°C) and pressure (101.3 kPa). There is no guideline method available for this endpoint and data presented are based on visual observation, supported by data on pour point and viscosity. The pour point for chemicals in this category ranges from -6 to 36°C (CONCAWE, 1992a). Boiling points for members of this category range from 250 to 640°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). The absolute density range for the category is from 0.92 to 1.07 g/cm3 at 15°C.(CONCAWE, 2010a) while the vapour pressure is less than 0.01 kPa at 20°C (CONCAWE, 2010a).

Flash points for members of this category range from 140 to 315°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). Self-ignition temperatures for treated distillate aromatic extracts are in the range of 250°C to 410°C (or higher) at 1013 hPa (CONCAWE, 2010a). Treated distillate aromatic extracts do not meet EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008) classification criteria for flammability, explosivity, noroxidisingproperties. The viscosity of substances in this category is >10 mm2/sec at 40°C and is >3 mm2/s at 100°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). Substances in this category having a viscosity ≤20.5 mm2/s at 40°C meet the criteria for classification as an aspiration hazard according to the EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008).

Based on information available on the properties of the substances that comprise the treated distillate aromatic extracts category of chemicals, specific data are not presented for the following endpoints: partition co-efficient, water solubility, granulometry, surface tension, stability in organic solvents, flammability, explosiveness, oxidising properties, and dissociation constant. Appropriate waiving statements are provided to indicate why data for these REACH endpoints are not applicable. The physico-chemical data presented are considered representative for the substances included in the category treated distillate aromatic extracts.
