Description of key information

Tetraethylammonium hydroxide lacks structural alerts for pyrophoric properties and for flammability in contact with water. Furthermore the registered substance only exists as aqueous solution(s). It can therefore be concluded that both tetraethylammonium hydroxide and the registered substance will not ignite spontaneously when coming into contact with water and are not pyrophoric. The conclusion is confirmed by experience in handling with the registered substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Justification for non-classification according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008:

-Because the flash point for the registered substance was determined to be > 60°C, no classification is required for the hazard 'Flammable liquids'.

-No classification is required for the hazard 'Pyrophoric liquids' or "Pyrophoric solids'

-No classification is required for the hazard 'Substances which in contact with water emits flammable gases' .

- Classification for 'self-heating substances' or 'flammable solids' was considered not applicable because the registered substance only exists in the form of a liquid aqueous solution.
