Description of key information

Two reliable studies in rainbow trout reported low acute toxicity (LC50 >100 mg/l). Two other reliable studies using bluegills reported 10% and 55% mortality at 100 and 116 mg/l respectively.

Additional information

Four reliable studies of acute toxicity to fish are available, using two fish species. Two of these (1 using rainbow trout, 1 bluegill) included supporting analysis and demonstrated that actual exposure levels were maintained close to nominal values. In rainbow trout, no significant adverse effects were seen at the maximum concentrations tested (100 mg/l nominal or 150 mg/l mean measured). Using bluegills, 10% mortality was reported at 100 mg/l (nominal) plus 55% mortality at 116 mg/l (mean measured). Taking a weight of evidence approach, it is concluded that the 96h LC50 for acute toxicity to freshwater fish is between 100 and 116 mg/l.
