The toxicity test to microorganisms (Simon_2010) performed according to OECD 209 and GLP was rated with RL=1 (reliable without restrictions) and used as a key study. For the respiration rate the EC50 is >1012.5 mg/L. The used concentrations were 12.5, 37.5, 112.5, 337.5 and 1012.5 mg SymMollient® S per litre. Up to and including a concentration of 1012.5 mg SymMollient® S per litre, no concentration depending effect on respiration rate occurred. With a highest inhibition of 18.2 % inhibition at a concentration of 337.5 mg SymMollient® S per litre, respiration rate of the inoculum was inhibited less than 20 % up to and including a concentration of 1012.5 mg per litre when compared with the control. In this study no significant inhibition of bacterial respiration due to SymMollient® S up to and including a concentration of 1012.5 mg/L was observed. SymMollient® S was non-toxic against activated sludge organisms.
