At the arrival SMIA Ammonium is stored in the raw materials ware-house (quarantine area).
Sampling is managed following an internal procedure.
The substance is loaded from the container into the reactor through a manhole; it is added to a methylene chloride, phosphorus pentachloride and dimethylacetamide mixture at temperature of – 10 °C. The procedure is managed under local ventilation and scrubber to prevent any significant release of the substance. The scrubber is loaded with an 10%(w/w) soda solution.

The exhausted soda is sent to an internal disposal unit for incineration. The mother waters are collected in a reactor and separated in an aqueous phase and an organic phase.
The organic phase, containing methylene chloride, is sent to external authorised company for disposal. The aqueous phase, containing water and methanol, is sent to an internal disposal unit for incineration.

The empty containers are sent to an external disposal unit.

Sampling, analysis, storage, loading and unloading of equipment, cleaning and waste disposal are managed under exhaust ventilation and scrubber to prevent any significant release of the substance.
During these process workers follow an internal procedure and wear appropriate PPE.
Only trained and authorised personnel handle the substance.
