Storage conditions: Ambient temperature (10 °C to 30 °C)
Expiry date: January 11, 2022 - Melting / freezing pt.:
- > 500 °C
- Conclusions:
- The test item had a no melting point up to 500 °C at atmospheric conditions according to European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, A.1. and OECD 102 (1995).
- Executive summary:
Winkler (2021) is a GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 102 and EU method A1. It is reliable without restrictions and can be used as a key study for this endpoint. Melting point was determined using differential scanning calorimetry. The test item had no melting point up to 500 °C at atmospheric conditions.
Reference
The first DSC measurement in an aluminium crucible with a hole showed two endothermal effects in the temperature ranges of 60 – 170 °C and 220 – 350 °C, respectively. After the measurement the test item was a visually unchanged. The mass loss after the DSC measurement amounted to 20 %.
The second measurement in an aluminium crucible with a hole showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range of 85 – 150 °C. The measurement was terminated at 180 °C. The mass loss after the DSC measurement amounted to 12 %.
The result of the DSC measurement is summarized in Table 1.
Table 1: DSC measurements
Ident No. | Test item / mg | Starting temperature / °C | Final test temperature / °C | Temperature range / °C | Crucible | Observations after the measurement |
39499 | 17.00 | 25 | 500 | 60 – 170 220 – 350 | Aluminium with a hole | Test item was visually unchanged; mass loss: 20 % |
39506 | 18.51 | 25 | 180 | 85 – 150 | Aluminium with a hole | Test item was visually unchanged; mass loss: 12 % |
Under consideration of the result from the DSC measurements and the optical observation after the measurements it was concluded that the test item had no melting point and no boiling point at atmospheric conditions.
Description of key information
The test item had no melting point up to 500 °C at atmospheric conditions.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
