First-aid measures
Description of first aid measures: Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If danger of loss of consciousness, place patient in recovery position and transport accordingly. Apply artificial respiration if necessary. First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.
- If inhaled: Immediately administer a corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler. Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention.
- On skin contact: Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.
- On contact with eyes: Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.
- On ingestion: Immediately rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water, do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:
- Hazards: Danger of irritation to the lungs. Risk of pulmonary edema. These risks can occur also at lower concentrations.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
- Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote, administer corticosteroid dose aerosol to prevent pulmonary odema.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
- boron trifluoride, acetonitrile; cyanomethane, carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide, hydrogen cyanide; hydrocyanic acid, nitrogen oxides; the substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire.
Advice for fire-fighters
- Special protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.
Further information: Containers/tanks should be cooled with water spray. Avoid direct contact with water. Contaminated extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with official regulations.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: breathing protection required. Sources of ignition should be kept well clear. Ensure adequate ventilation.
Environmental precautions: do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater. Due to the pH-value of the product, neutralization is generally required before discharging sewage into treatment plants.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
- For small amounts: Dilute with water. Neutralize with lime. Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.
- For large amounts: Dike spillage. Place into suitable container for disposal. Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling: keep container tightly sealed. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
Protection against fire and explosion: Sources of ignition should be kept well clear. Fire extinguishers should be kept handy. Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
- Suitable materials for containers: Stainless steel 1.4539, High density polyethylene (HDPE)
- Further information on storage conditions: Keep container dry. Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place.
Protect from temperatures above: 35 °C; the packed product must be protected against exceeding the indicated temperature.

Exposure controls / personal protection

2. Organisational protection measures: Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.
3. Hand protection: Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)
- Suitable materials for short-term contact (recommended: At least protective index 2, corresponding > 30 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374), butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness.
- Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.
Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.
