Description of key information

TS-ED 532 is not irritatiing to skin, eyes and respiratory tract and shall not be classified according to GHS and DSD-DPD. TS-ED 532 was found to be not irritating after single topical semi-occlusive application to the skin of three rabbits of both sexes and after single instillation to the eyes of three rabbits of both sexes. Respiratory irritation is considered unlikely, because TS-ED 532 has a very low vapour pressure (1.1x10-7 Pa at 25 °C) .

Additional information

The application of TS-ED 532 to the skin of three rabbits resulted in moderate signs of irritation which included erythema and oedema. These effects were reversible and were no longer evident 7 days after treatment. TS-ED 532 caused no staining of the treated skin and no corrosive effects were observed. No clinical signs of TS-ED 532 related effects were observed. Overall, TS-ED 532 did not induce significant or irreversible damage to the skin. Hence, TS-ED 532 is considered to be not irritating to rabbit skin.

The instillation of TS-ED 532 into one eye of each of three rabbits resulted in mild, early-onset and transient ocular changes, such as reddening of the conjunctivae and sclerae, discharge and chemosis. These effects were reversible and no longer evident 48 h after instillation. No abnormal findings were observed in the cornea or iris. TS-ED 532 caused no staining of the treated eyes and no corrosive effects were observed. No clinical signs of TS-ED 532 related effects were observed. Overall, TS-ED 532 did not induce significant or irreversible damage to the rabbit eye. Hence, TS-ED 532 is considered to be not irritating to rabbit eye.

TS-ED 532 is a transparent liquid with a low vapour pressure of 1.1x10-7 Pa at 25 °C and 4.8x10-8 Pa at 20 °C. TS-ED 532 is therefore not volatile and respiratory irritation is considered unlikely.

Justification for classification or non-classification

TS-ED 532 was found to be not irritating after single topical semi-occlusive application to the skin of three rabbits of both sexes and after single instillation to one eye of each of three rabbits of both sexes. Based on these result, TS-ED 532 is not hazardous to skin and eyes and shall not be classified according to GHS and DSD-DPD.
