Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

With high probability acutely not harmful to daphnids, no toxic effects occur within the range of water solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of the test substance was tested in a semi-static GLP guideline study according to the “Method of test concerning new chemical substance <Alga growth inhibition test, Daphnia acute immobilization test, and fish acute toxicity test>” (Notification No. 1121002 of the Pharmaceutical and Food Safety Bureau, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, dated November 13, 2003, (Heisei 15-11-13), No. 2 of the Manufacturing Industries Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Notification No. 031121002 of the Environmental Policy Bureau, Ministry of the Environment, dated November 21, 2003)". After 48 h no acute toxicity within the range of solubility could be observed. The water solubility was tested in a preliminary study to guarantee that the main test will be conducted up to the maximum solubility within the test media. Therefore, DMF was additionally used as solubilizer and a limit test was conducted.

Since no acute toxic effects occurred within the range of solubility, the test substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates

The results are supported by a second study: The EC50 value of the test substance in Daphnia magna was determined to be 52 mg/L in a study using an emulsifier due to the low water solubility of the test substance (CIBA-GEIGY 1988b). The water solubility of the test item was determined to be lower than 0.73 µg/L (Cytec 971/121, 2001). The EC0 value of 10 mg/L reported in the study on daphnids clearly shows that there were no acute toxic effects within the range of water solubility.
