Sampling and analysis

Details on sampling:
Exposure was performed under static conditions in a closed basin with 60 fishes and 5000 mL of carbon filtered tap water, (Hardness 230 ± 20 mg/L as CaO, pH 8.1 ± 0.1 at 26 ± 1 °C). 100 mg/L streptomycine sulfate were added. Fishes were not fed during exposure. The water was aerated and waste was passed through toluene to detect evaporated anilines and through KOH solution (10 % w/v) to collect 14CO2. Water, toluene, and KOH samples were taken several times during exposure and examined for radioactivity. Activity in water was kept constant (± 10%) during exposure. Ten samples at three fishes each were taken to examine the kinetics of uptake. Steady state was considered to be reached when activity was constant in at least three samples. The remaining 30 fishes were then transferrecl to the elimination basin, where tap water was passed through (10 L/h for the first ten hours, 2 L/h thereafter). Sampies taken during elimination (three fishes each) were treated in the same way as decribed above.
