The study by Cronin(1994) was non-guideline, with briefly documented experimental details. While not directly measured in the toxicity experiments, an assessment of the concentration stability was made in controls. No explicit positive controls or information on reproducibility was reported. The guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R7b, R.7.8.16, indicates that toxicity data on ciliates are to be considered as supplementary to the data on activated sludge or specific bacterial strains; there is no correlation between activated sludge and ciliate test results.
The study by Westbury(2004) was non-guideline, with briefly documented experimental details. The guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R7b, R.7.8.17, indicates that toxicity data on single bacterial species, and in particular those isolated from marine environments, are considered to be of low relevance to sewage treatment plants.
A GLP compliant, OECD guideline 301A test, was conducted by Eisner(2010) to assess the ready biodegradability of the substance. The results from the toxicity control show that the substance was not inhibitory to activated sludge at the tested concentration of 42mg/L.
