General advice:

First Aid responders should pay attention to self-protection and use the recommended protective clothing

Move out of dangerous area.

Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately.

Keep warm and in a quiet place.

If inhaled:

Move to fresh air.

If not breathing, give artificial respiration.Keep the victim calm and in a semi-upright position.

Call a physician immediately.

In case of skin contact:

Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

Call a physician immediately.

In case of eye contact:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.

Call a physician immediately.

If swallowed:

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Do NOT induce vomiting.

Call a physician immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms:

Headache

Nausea

Vomiting

Tiredness

Drowsiness

Dizziness

Unconsciousness

Risks:

If ingested, severe burns of the mouth and throat, as well as a danger of perforation of the oesophagus and the stomach.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment:

Treat symptomatically.

For specialist advice physicians should contact the Poisons Information Service.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

Dry extinguishing media based on NaCl or pulverized lime-stone.

Unsuitable extinguishing media:

Water

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Foam

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during fire-fighting:

In contact with water releases flammable gases which may ignite spontaneously.

Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air.

Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors.

Flash back possible over considerable distance.

Hazardous decomposition products formed under fire condi-tions.

Carbon monoxide

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters:

Wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing ap-paratus.

Further information:

Use a water spray to cool fully closed containers.

Be aware of a dangerous reaction with water, if the container is ruptured.

Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.

Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions:

Remove all sources of ignition.

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Wear personal protective equipment.

Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

Do not breathe dust/ fume/ gas/ mist/ vapours/ spray.

Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.

Environmental precautions

Environmental precautions:

Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.

Avoid subsoil penetration.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Methods for cleaning up:

Do not allow contact with water.

Cover spilled material with limestone powder.

Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers.

Non-sparking tools should be used.

Adequate disposal

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling:

Handle under inert gas. Protect from moisture.

Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.

Provide exhaust ventilation close to floor level.

Avoid formation of aerosol.

Wear personal protective equipment.

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

In general, emissions are controlled and prevented by imple-menting an appropriate management system, including regu-lar informing and training workers.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion:

Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors. Flash back pos-sible over considerable distance. Use only explosion-proof equipment. Take precautionary measures against static dis-charge. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Uncleaned empty containers can contain product gases, which form explosive mixtures with air.

Hygiene measures:

Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe dust/ fume/ gas/ mist/ vapours/ spray. Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs. Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Requirements for storage areas and containers:

Keep under inert gas. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat. Keep away from direct sunlight. Protect from moisture. Protect from frost. Do not allow contact with air.

Advice on common storage:

Oxidizing agents

Acids

Never allow product to get in contact with water during stor-age.

Specific end use(s)

Specific use(s):

Reagent for organic synthesis.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering measures

Use product only in closed system.

Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.

Provide exhaust ventilation close to floor level.

Take precautionary measures against static discharge.

Electrical equipment should be protected to the appropriate standard.

Personal protective equipment

Eye protection:

Safety glasses with side-shields conforming to EN166

Face-shield

Hand protection

Material:

Wear suitable gloves.

Material:

Flame retardant gloves

Remarks:

Protective gloves complying with EN 374. and

Protective gloves complying with EN 659. The choice of an appropriate glove does not only depend on its material but

also on other quality features and is different from one pro-ducer to the other. The exact break through time can be ob-tained from the protective glove producer and this has to be observed. Protective gloves have to be replaced at the first sign of deterioration.

Skin and body protection:

Flame retardant antistatic protective clothing.

Complete suit protecting against chemicals

Respiratory protection:

In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection.

Recommended Filter type:

ABEK-P2-filter

When prolonged exposure is expected:

Wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Protective measures:

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Ensure that eye flushing systems and safety showers are located close to the working place.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

Risk of violent reaction.

Chemical stability

Sensitive to air. Decomposes on heating. Decomposition under influence of moisture is highly accelerated by heating.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Hazardous reactions:

In contact with water releases flammable gases which may ignite spontaneously.

May form explosive peroxides.

Reacts violently with water.

Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Conditions to avoid

Conditions to avoid:

Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

Keep away from heat.

Strong sunlight for prolonged periods.

Protect from moisture.

Do not allow contact with air.

Take action to prevent static discharges.

Incompatible materials

Materials to avoid:

Water

Acids

Oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products

Decomposes in contact with water. propane

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Product:

Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.

Contaminated packaging:

Refer to manufacturer/ supplier for information on recovery/ recycling.

Waste Code:

Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in discussion with the waste disposal authorities.
