Duplicate samples from the freshly prepared test media (containing algae) of all test concentrations and from the control were taken at the start of the test.
For the determination of the stability of the test item under the test conditions and of the maintenance of the test item concentrations during the test period, duplicate samples from the test media of all test concentrations and the control (containing algae) were taken at the end of the test (after the 72 hours test period) by pouring together the contents of the test beakers of each treatment.

Microscopic Observations:
The microscopic examination of the shape of the algal cells after 72 hours of test duration did not show any differences between the algae that had been growing up to a nominal test concentration of 100 mg Hydroiodic acid/L and the algal cells in the control. Thus, the shape of the algal cells was not obviously affected up to this test concentration, the highest concentration tested.

In case of the lowest test concentration of nominal 0.0091 mg Hydroiodic acid/L all measured values were below the limit of detection or the limit of quantification of the analytical method.
In case of the second lowest test concentration of nominal 0.0291 mg Hydroiodic acid/L all measured values were slightly below the limit of quantification of the analytical method, apart from one replicate of the aged test media where 113 % of the nominal were found.
In the nominal test concentrations of 100, 31.3, 9.77, 3.05, 0.954, 0.298 and 0.093 mg Hydroiodic acid/L an average of 104 % of nominal was found at the start of the test. After 72 hours test duration, an average of 110 % of the nominal value was determined. During the test the algae were exposed to a mean of 107 % of nominal in these treatment groups.

- Executive summary:
The influence of the test item on the growth of the freshwater green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was assessed in a static concentration-response test performed according to OECD 201 and Regulation (EC) No. 226/2016 Method C.3 under GLP. The algae were exposed to test item concentrations of control, 100, 31.3, 9.77, 3.05, 0.954, 0.298, 0.093, 0.0291 and 0.0091 mg Hydroiodic acid/L, corresponding to 169, 53.1, 16.6, 5.17, 1.62, 0.505, 0.158, 0.0493 and 0.0154 mg test item/L under static conditions for 72 hours. The cell density of the algae was determined spectrophotometrically every 24 hours. The 72-hour EyC50 was calculated to be 0.462 mg Hydroiodic acid/L and the 72-hour ErC50 value was calculated to be 1.58 mg Hydroiodic acid/L. The 72-hour NOEyC was determined to be 0.029 mg Hydroiodic acid/L and the associated 72-hour LOEyC was 0.093 mg Hydroiodic acid/L. The 72-hour NOErC was determined to be 0.093 mg Hydroiodic acid/L and the associated 72-hour LOErC was 0.298 mg Hydroiodic acid/L.
The initial concentrations and the maintenance of the exposure concentrations during the test were sufficiently verified in the analytical part. All reported results refer to nominal values since the concentrations of the test item were within ± 20 % of the nominal concentrations (for all treatment levels above and equal NOEC) during the test.
