Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity data of barium dilaurate are not available. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble barium substances and lauric acid is applied for the assessment of barium dilaurate since the ions of barium dilaurate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Based on dissolved barium concentrations in solution, the ErC50 and NOEC for growth inhibition of algae are >1.15 and >=1.15 mg Ba/L, respectively. Aquatic toxicity data of lauric acid point to a low toxic potential to aquatic algae. The ecotoxic potential of the fatty acid chain, i.e. laurate, is assumed to be negligible. Fatty acids are generally not considered to represent a risk to the environment, which is reflected in their exclusion from REACH registration requirements (c.f. REACH Annex V (Regulation (EC) No 987/2008)).

Thus, barium dilaurate is expected to have a low potential for toxicity to algae.
