Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

Classification relevant information:

Degradation

- Hydrolysis: << 2 min (EU method C.7; read across from CAS No. 5894-60-0)

- Biodegradation: inherently biodegradable (57% after 28 d and 65% after 60 d, OECD 301F)

Acute aquatic toxicity

Aquatic invertebrates

EC50 (48 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal, OECD 202, Daphnia magna)

Algae

ErC50 (72 h) > 31.8 mg/L (nominal, methanol as solvent) and > 29.5 mg/L (nominal, TBA as solvent), (OECD 201, Scenedesmus subspicatus) based on read across from CAS 16415-12-6

Chronic aquatic toxicity

Algae

ErC10 (72 h) ≥ 31.8 mg/L (nominal, methanol as solvent), ErC10 (72 h) = 20.91 mg/L (nominal, TBA as solvent) (OECD 201, Scenedesmus subspicatus) based on read across from CAS 16415-12-6

Classification according to CLP

Chloro(dimethyl)octadecylsilane (CAS 18643-08-8) hydrolyses rapidly (DT50 < 2 min, at pH 7 and 25 °C) to form the hydrolysis products octadecyldimethylsilanol and hydrochloric acid. The silanol hydrolysis product octadecyldimethylsilanol is not considered rapidly degradable. Acute toxicity data for the target substance itself is available for aquatic invertebrates, while acute and chronic data for aquatic algae is available for the analogue substance hexadecyl(trimethoxy)silane (CAS No. 16415-12-6). No acute or chronic hazard was indicated within the range of water solubility. Therefore chloro(dimethyl)octadecylsilane (CAS 18643-08-8) is not classified and labeled according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
