- Key result
- Flash point:
- 135 °C
- Atm. press.:
- 1 013.25 hPa
- Interpretation of results:
- Category 2 (highly flammable liquids) based on GHS criteria
- Conclusions:
- Flash point of the test item was determined to be 135 °C at 1013.25 hPa.
- Executive summary:
The purpose of the study was to determine the flash point of test item using Pensky-Martens Closed Cup non-equilibrium method according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.9. The oven was heated with an initial temperature of 120 °C (heating rate of 2.5 °C/min). Three tests were carried out in order to determine the flash point of the test item. The mean flash point of the test item was determined to be 135 °C at 1013.25 hPa.
Reference
For the determination of the initial temperature of flash point measurement a screen test was performed with the test item. The sample was heated from 30 °C to 200 °C using 5.5 °C/min heating rate. Based on this preliminary test the flash point of the test item was determined to be: 137.3 °C.
In the course of the study three subsequent tests with the test item were carried out. The measured flash points of the test item were: 134.3 °C, 135.3 °C and 135.3 °C resulting a mean value: 135 °C at 101.3 kPa.
The repeatability criterion was met because the maximum difference between replicate determinations was not more than 2 °C.
Description of key information
Flash point of the test item was determined to be 135 °C at 1013.25 hPa.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
- 135 °C
Additional information
The purpose of the study was to determine the flash point of test item using Pensky-Martens Closed Cup non-equilibrium method according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.9 (reference 4.11-1). The oven was heated with an initial temperature of 120 °C (heating rate of 2.5 °C/min). Three tests were carried out in order to determine the flash point of the test item. The mean flash point of the test item was determined to be 135 °C at 1013.25 hPa.
