Description of key information

One study is available (Abe 1974) with the substance, another one with phthalic anhydride (Biofax 13-4/1970). The first one describes a 2 year oral treatment of rats and mice, the second one a 28 day oral treatment of rats. As both studies are not very reliable (only short abstracts available) no effect level can be determined.

Additional information

Rats and mice were fed the substance for two years or rats were orally given phthalic anhydride for 28 days. They did not show any symptoms and no change of the general situation was observed. Inhibition of body weight increase and higher intake of diet and water were found in the highest dose group as well as fat degeneration and necrosis of the liver cells. But the dose-response relationship of the symptoms was not clear and thus an effect level could not be determined.
