Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

20 °C

Additional information

Mill scale is a UVCB substance. Mill scale is mainly and primarily composed of iron oxides (see composition section 1.2) and essentially insoluble. As a surrogate for the water solubility of mill scale, a study on diiron trioxide (Currenta, 2009) is included in the dossier. At a loading of 10 g/L, after 24 hours, the concentration of dissolved iron in the supernatant was < 1 µg/L.

This is supported by further studies on other iron oxide forms (see study records marked as supporting studies).
