Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

According to the Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment (chapter R.7b) no sediment testing is necessary for a substance with a log Pow < 3. For the four constituents of Fusel oil the log Pow values are below 3. In such case, the partitioning method can be adequately used to predict the PNEC for the sediment compartment. In addition the main constituents of Fusel oil are readily biodegradable and therefore exposure of sediment is unlikely.

Nevertheless, screening data on several sediment dwelling organisms exposed to Ethanol (CAS 64 -17 -5) are available. The reported tests were conducted in absence of sediment and were thus more typical for those used for water dwelling species, the reported LC50-values were above 100 mg/L for all tested organisms.
