Justification for classification or non-classification

Respiratory sensitisation: Resp. Sens. 1 H334: May cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled.

Skin sensitisation: Skin Sens. 1 H317: May cause allergic skin reaction.

The estimated hazard is representative for the substance across industry, as defined by the maximum of the typical elemental concentration across industry (as outlined under IUCLID section 1.2).

The UVCB is a complex metal containing substance, which major constituents are sulphuric acid and water, as well as nickel, copper and arsenic (soluble) salt. Sulphuric acid is a strong mineral acid that has high affinity to water. It dissociates in water to form sulphate and hydrogen (carbonium) ions. These, as well as CuSO4 and NiSO4, as well Arsenic and zinc sulphate salts are the relevant forms to determine hazard properties of the substance. The Ni sulphate content trigerred the classification as skin/resp sensitizer because max conc can reach 1% w/w in the solution.
